Redirect chain
Follow an address through every redirect to the page it finally lands on.
Each redirect with its status, time and Location, plus HTTPS and HSTS notes, appears here.
What it does
The redirect chain checker requests the address and follows every redirect until a page answers. It shows the status, time, Location and HSTS header of each hop, and warns about loops, long chains and downgrades to HTTP.
How to use it
- 1Type an address, with http:// to test the HTTPS upgrade.
- 2Read each hop.
- 3Point the first address straight at the final one.
Questions
What is HSTS?
A header that makes browsers use https by themselves, so the insecure first request is skipped.
301 or 302?
301 and 308 are permanent and pass search value to the new address. 302 and 307 are temporary.
How many redirects are too many?
One is normal, two is fine. More than two adds delay you can remove.
