DNS from several places
Ask several resolvers for a domain’s records and see if they agree.
The answer of each resolver, side by side, with the time to live and a verdict: all match or still changing.
What it does
After you change a DNS record, some resolvers keep the old answer until its TTL runs out. This check asks the system resolver and three big public ones for the same record and tells you whether they agree.
How to use it
- 1Type a domain and pick a record type.
- 2Compare the answers.
- 3If they differ, wait for the TTL and check again.
Questions
What is propagation?
The time it takes for caches around the world to drop the old answer. The TTL sets the upper limit.
Why do resolvers disagree?
Each one cached the record at a different moment, so some still hold the old value.
Are other regions available?
Not yet. Today all answers are asked from Frankfurt; more places will be added.
